Real-Time Classroom Instruction System for K–6 Classrooms
created for
Teachers operate in fast-moving environments where they must manage instruction, student behavior, pacing, and performance simultaneously. This system was designed to support live decision-making and classroom coordination at scale.

THE CHALLENGE
Design a system to help teachers manage the complexity of a classroom environment.
Teachers constantly balance lesson pacing, classroom management, student progress, and curriculum delivery while making rapid instructional decisions. Existing tools treated these activities independently, limiting their usefulness during live classroom instruction and requiring teachers to interpret disconnected information themselves.
UNDERSTANDING THE CLASSROOM SYSTEM
A multi-year longitudinal ethnographic study revealed how teachers actually make decisions.
Through embedded research across K–6 classrooms, I conducted classroom observations, interviews, and usability testing with teachers, administrators, and students in real instructional environments. This research uncovered the relationships between lesson planning, classroom management, student behavior, curriculum delivery, and performance monitoring, revealing that teachers needed more than visibility—they needed meaningful guidance at the moment decisions were being made.
DEFINING THE PLATFORM
A real-time instructional platform that transformed data into actionable insight.
Rather than designing isolated teaching tools or reporting dashboards, research revealed the need for a platform that could connect classroom activity, curriculum delivery, student monitoring, and performance data within a single experience. I designed an insights framework that translated complex performance signals into structured insights and actionable workflow recommendations, helping teachers and administrators move from identifying problems to knowing what steps to take next.
I designed role-based workflows for teachers, administrators, and district staff while organizing live classroom monitoring, curriculum management, reporting, and instructional analytics into a scalable enterprise platform. The system architecture supported different decision-making needs across roles while maintaining consistent data models, interaction patterns, and actionable insight frameworks.
EXPERIENCE DESIGN
Interfaces transformed classroom data into actionable instructional decisions.
The platform included real-time classroom dashboards, activity timelines, student monitoring, reporting tools, curriculum management, and data visualizations designed to support rapid instructional decisions. Rather than requiring users to interpret raw performance data, the experience surfaced meaningful patterns, categorized insights, and connected information to specific actions teachers and administrators could take.
DATA GOVERNANCE
Designed student data systems aligned with privacy, safeguarding, and compliance requirements.
The platform was designed to handle student data responsibly within educational environments, incorporating role-based access, privacy considerations, and regulatory compliance requirements while still enabling real-time instructional use.
IMPACT
A scalable instructional platform transformed classroom data into a real-time decision-support system.
The platform supported classroom instruction, curriculum delivery, and performance monitoring across K–6 environments, establishing a scalable model for real-time classroom orchestration. Deployed nationally, the system supported more than 2 million students across all 50 states.
